Qualifying Standards Set, Countdown Begins
On July 26, 2024, the world will gather in Paris to witness the pinnacle of athletic competition at the Olympic Games. Before the spectacle unfolds, however, athletes must demonstrate their prowess and secure their place in the prestigious event.
The World Athletics Council has released the qualifying standards athletes must meet to earn their spots at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The qualification period spans from May 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024, providing athletes ample time to showcase their abilities in elite competitions.
The upcoming Games will feature a total of 49 events, including 23 women's events and 23 men's events. Two mixed events, the 4x400m mixed relay and the 35km mixed team race, will also grace the Olympic stage.
Athletes can qualify for the Olympic Games through three primary pathways: achieving the qualifying standard, meeting the Olympic Entry Standard, or participating in designated Continental Qualification Tournaments. To ensure fairness and competitiveness, the qualifying standards vary across event disciplines.
