Scranton Wilkes Barre Railriders Lose A Key Player

Nick Nastrini Recalled from Triple-A

Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Lose a Key Player

The New York Yankees have recalled outfielder Nick Nastrini from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Nastrini, 25, was hitting .296 with four home runs and 16 RBIs in 44 games with the RailRiders this season.

He made his major league debut with the Yankees in 2022, appearing in 16 games and batting .222 with one home run and two RBIs.

Filling a Spot on the Yankees Roster

Nastrini was recalled to fill the roster spot of outfielder Tim Locastro, who was designated for assignment on Thursday.

Locastro, 30, was hitting .222 with one home run and four RBIs in 31 games with the Yankees this season.

He was acquired by the Yankees in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks in March.

Yankees' Outfield Depth

With Nastrini's recall, the Yankees now have five outfielders on their active roster:
  • Aaron Judge
  • Giancarlo Stanton
  • Oswaldo Cabrera
  • Estevan Florial
  • Nick Nastrini

The Yankees are expected to give Nastrini an opportunity to start in the outfield, especially against left-handed pitching.

He is a good defender with a strong arm and has the ability to hit for power and average.

With the Yankees currently in a playoff race, Nastrini's recall could be a key move in helping them reach the postseason.
