Semi-Truck Crash Closes SB 5 Freeway in Elysian Park

French Fries Litter Freeway After Crash

The southbound 5 Freeway in Elysian Park, Los Angeles, is currently closed after a semi-truck crash spilled boxes of french fries across the roadway. The incident occurred around 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 23, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the semi-truck was traveling southbound on the 5 Freeway when it lost control and overturned. The truck's trailer, which was carrying a load of frozen french fries, was ripped open in the crash, spilling the contents onto the roadway.

The CHP is currently investigating the cause of the crash. No injuries have been reported.

Traffic Impact

The SB 5 Freeway is currently closed between the 110 Freeway and Stadium Way. Traffic is being diverted off the freeway at the 110 Freeway. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Cleanup and Recovery

Crews are currently working to clean up the spilled french fries and reopen the freeway. The CHP estimates that the freeway will be closed for several hours.
